About Me

I'm Olivia and have been for 25 years. When I was young I was convinced that I was going to be an opera singer, I had a small imaginary (2 inches in height) owl friend, I regularly dressed up as a bagpiper and blasted Great Highland Bagpipe tunes (I used a balloon as my bagpipe). I had a bizarre obsession with dead balloons in which I kept any and every balloon that was given to me and over the years the balloons congealed into an unidentified object of sorts. I loved preforming as a child and my family had to sit through many dance performances which mainly consisted of me doing strange modern dance moves with the American flag. True Patriot.

For those who know me well they would say that I have not grown out of any of these bizarritites but my experiences throughout life have grounded me a bit.
Most recently I got my MSc in Conservation from University College London. I have had the unbelievable opportunity to live, work, travel, and laugh a lot in India, Thailand, Nepal, Tibet, Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Costa Rica, and a handful of countries in Europe (and America of course).

My passion is the environment. Preserving what is left. Or more importantly, getting to know and understand what is left. I have observed, studied and walked the grounds of numerous terrestrial and coastal ecosystems ranging from the Mojave desert, the semi-arid landscape of Utah, the lowland tropical rain forest of Costa Rica, the salt marshes of Norfolk (UK), Welsh Highlands, the caldera of Mt. Teide (Canary Islands), the numerous ecosystems of the Tibetan Plateau, the lowlands of the Himalayan Mountains, the Ton Le Sap (Cambodia), wetlands of the Mekong River, the mangroves of southern Vietnam, the karst mountain ranges in the northern Annamite Mountains (Cuc Phuong National Park), the Korean Pine/mixed deciduous forest of Northeastern China and the list goes on.

Currently I am living and working in Chicago, an obvious biodiversity hotspot. Kidding. I grew up here and my family is here, hence, my reason for relocating from London Town. I am in the midst of figuring out my next chapter, but, in the meantime, to help out my depleted bank account I am, wait for it.... A glorified door person. To say the least, I have a bit of time on my hands so I am going to share some of the crazy things that I have done in my life, what I have learned about the environment, why it is so important to preserve what is left, and give you a bit of insight into what it is like being a door person.
